• ESC at Global Liner Shipping Conference

    16-17 May 2017, European Shippers’ Council represented by its Chairman Denis Choumert addressed shippers’ concerns at the Global Liner Shipping Conference. This annual event gathered almost 200 people, with all stakeholders in liner shipping present. ESC has clearly expressed its worry with the market conditions in the maritime sector.

  • Maritime mergers: ESC wants EC to be more proactive

    European Shippers’ Council advocates a change of the European legislation to enable the European Commission to take a more proactive stance for protecting the EU market against monopolist tendencies. The US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) rejects for legal reasons a planned merger aiming at a joint container shipping service between Japan’s three big carriers. ESC considers it as a positive move that FMC proactively takes this step.

  • Platooning

    9 May 2017, ESC as the advocate of platooning was invited to participate in the breakfast meeting on this topic hosted by Dieter-Lebrecht Koch, a Christian Democrat Member of the European Parliament. Platoons are road trains consisted of several trucks, managed by the driver of the first truck, with the others following at a short distance, without human interference and without being physically attached.

  • Joint meeting between rail freight CEOs and shippers

    On 6 May 2017, under the joint umbrella of ESC and CER/UIC, a delegation of 11 shippers met with the CEOs of European rail freight companies members of CER and UIC. One of the key topics on the agenda was the need for key performance indicators, in order to increase the transparency of rail freight services’ performance.
